ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team won both its matches on Friday night, the first day of the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic.
In the first match of the day, the Blue Jays defeated York (PA) 3-1, with scores of 25-17, 18-25, 25-15, and 25-15. Freshman Kristi Rhead led the way for the Blue Jays with 11 kills, 21 assists, and two services aces, while sophomore Ally Hirsch added 11 kills. Junior Carolyn Zin added 17 assists and tallied three service aces. For the match the Jays totaled 46 kills on 38 assists.
In its second match, the Jays had a clean 3-0 sweep of SUNY New Paltz, winning 25-21, 25-8, 25-21. Junior Ali Cox led the Jays with 12 kills, while Rhead and Zin combined for 38 assists. Senior Anne Cohen led the way defensively with 13 digs, while Stephanie Yokoyama and Erica Johnston tallied 12 and 11, respectively.
The Jays are back in action tomorrow as they take on Lebanon Valley College at 11 a.m. before taking on host Elizabethtown at 3 p.m.
