Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team saw 11 different players score in a 67-50 win over visiting Ursinus Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 13-2 overall and 7-1 in the Centennial Conference with their 10th straight win. It is Hopkins' longest win streak since the 1993-94 season. The Bears, who had won five of their last seven, fall to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in the CC.

Trailing 9-8 after an Andrew Wieczenski jumper at the 11:28-mark, junior Gene Williams drained a three-pointer to ignite a 13-2 run that saw Hopkins take a 21-11 lead just four minutes later. The Blue Jays fueled the run with a trio of triples, two of them from Williams. Steve Leonard sandwiched a pair of three-pointers around one by freshman Jesse Flannery and Hopkins led 24-17 with 6:18 to play in the half.

Less than two minutes later, the Blue Jays held an eight-point lead following a Remi Janicot free throw. On the ensuing possession, sophomore Ryan Curran pushed the lead to 10 with a bucket in the paint. That bucket kick-started a 10-0 run to end the half and sent Hopkins into the lockerroom with a 37-19 lead. As it turned out, Leonard's three-pointer with 6:18 to play was the Bears' last field goal for more than nine minutes.

Hopkins picked up where it left off, scoring the first six points of the half to push out to a 24-point lead on buckets by senior George Bugarinovic, Curran and junior Austin Vasiliadis. Malik Draper ended the run with a pair of shots from the free throw line at the 17:36-mark. The teams traded buckets and with 13:48 to play in the game, Hopkins led 51-30. Less than four minutes later, the lead had ballooned to 30, led by junior Matt Chiusano's five points during the spurt.

The Bears weren't going away and used a 15-0 run that spanned nearly five minutes to cut the deficit in half. Five different players scored for Ursinus during run while Hopkins was held without a field goal from 9:56 until 2:25. Freshman Kyle Doran ended the drought with an old-fashioned three-point play and Hopkins would lead by as much as 19 in the final three minutes.

Bugarinovic scored a game-high 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. He also handed out four assists and swiped four steals. Vasiliadis handed out six assists and junior Matt Billups had three blocks. Leonard led the Bears with 12 points, going 3-of-5 from three-point and 3-of-4 from the line. Joseph LoStracco pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and added a pair of assists.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, January 21 as the Blue Jays travel to the Eastern Shore to take on the Washington College Shorewomen. Tip-off at the Cain Athletic Center is slated for 6:00 pm.
