Baltimore, MD- For the second time this week, the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team shutout their Centennial Conference opponent. On Wednesday, the Blue Jays beat Franklin & Marshall 1-0 and on Saturday it was Ursinus who was unable to score on the Hopkins defense. JHU defeated the Bears 4-0 to improve to 8-3-1 on the season and 4-1 in Centennial play.
The Goals:
- JHU got on the board first when Ana Bengoechea connected on a pass from Bailey Monaco. Monaco corralled a rebound on the right side and passed it into the box where Bengoechea redirected it into the back of the net.
- Issy Berkey scored Hopkins' second goal later in the first half when she received a pass from Bengoechea and struck a one-time past the Ursinus goalkeeper.
- The Blue Jays increased their lead to 3-0 early in the second half when Meg Van de Loo fired one home. Ursinus goalkeeper Courtney Sullivan stopped an initial shot off the foot of Van de Loo, but the JHU junior got the rebound and beat Sullivan.
- Van de Loo struck again minutes later, scoring her 11th of the season to give the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead. This time she struck from roughly 25 yards out.
Inside the Box Score:
- JHU outshot Ursinus 26-6, including 10-3 in shots on goal.
- The Blue Jays took eight corner kicks, while the Bears had just one.
- Van de Loo led Hopkins with five shots on Saturday.
- Clara Aranguren and Sarah Benett combined to make three saves and share the shutout for the Blue Jays.
- Bengoechea's three points (one goal, one assist) give her 10 for the season, which is third on the team.
- Sullivan made six saves in defeat.
- Aranguren improved to 4-2-1 on the season with the win.
Next up:The Blue Jays will be back in action next Saturday, when they head to Haverford for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
