BRYN MAWR, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team scored the first five points of their Friday night match against Bryn Mawr and never looked back, sweeping the Owls in three sets. With the victory, JHU improves to 11-10 on the season and 7-2 in Centennial Conference play. More importantly, the win means the the Lady Jays held their ground in the CC standings and can avoid playing a first round game in the conference tournament by beating Gettysburg tomorrow.
How it Happened:
- Not long after JHU raced out to the aforementioned 5-0 lead, Elizabeth Wuerstle dropped five consecutive service aces to improve a 10-6 lead to 15-6. Hopkins maintained a steady lead throughout the first set and eventually closed it out, 25-12, on a Bryn Mawr error.
- Bryn Mawr scored the first point of the second set and lead by as many as two at 3-1 before the Blue Jays scored nine consecutive points to take control of the set. JHU clinched the set, 25-15, on an attack error from the Owls.
- The third set was similar to the first two as the Blue Jays once again set the tone early, scoring the first five points and nine of the first 10. Hopkins won the set, 25-12, on a kill from Grace Haselhorst to earn its seventh Centennial Conference victory of the season.
Who Led the Way:
- Wuerstle's finished with a career-high six service aces.
- For the third straight match, Kristi Rhead led the way in assists. The sophomore had one of the best matches of her career, totaling 26 helpers, 13 digs, six service aces and three kills on just five swings.
- Erica Johnston had a match-high nine kills to go along with nine digs.
Who's Up Next?:
Hopkins returns to action Saturday for its regular season finale. The Blue Jays will head to Gettysburg, PA for a 1:00 pm match against the Bullets.
