LANCASTER, PA- The Johns Hopkins volleyball team knocked off Centennial Conference rival Franklin & Marshall in straight sets, on the road Wednesday night in Lancaster. The Blue Jays improved to 8-9 on the season and 4-1 in CC play with the victory, while the Diplomats fell to 10-8 on the season and 3-2 in the conference.
How it Happened:
- Franklin & Marshall scored the first two points of the opening set and led by as much as four at 12-8. Hopkins closed the margin to three at 20-17 and rattled off six straight points to take a 23-20 advantage. The Blue Jays clinched the opening set, 25-21, on a kill from Grace Haselhorst.
- In the second set, it was Hopkins which scored the first two points and raced out to an early lead. The Blue Jays, however, were able to hold on to their lead throughout the set. JHU's largest lead was seven at 15-8 and 16-9. The Diplomats made a late run, but Hopkins held on to win the set 25-23 and take a 2-0 advantage into the third set.
- JHU broke a 4-4 tie in the third set with four straight points and never looked back leading by as many as eight at one point. The Blue Jays clinched the third set, and the match, on an F&M attack error.
Inside the Box Score:
- Carolyn Zin led the Blue Jays with a match-high 27 assists, 17 digs and four service aces.
- The Blue Jays collected eight blocks on the evening, including four block assists from Haselhorst.
- Elizabeth Wuerstle led JHU with nine kills.
Next up: The Blue Jays continue Centennial Conference play on Saturday against Ursinus. First serve is slated for 11:00 am and the squad will honor their three seniors -Ali Cox, Stephanie Yokoyama and Carolyn Zin- before the match.
