HOBOKEN, NJ - Nikki Wilson scored a goal for Bowdoin with just 57 seconds remaining on the clock to help the Polar Bears knock off Johns Hopkins, 3-2, in an NCAA First Round game Saturday night at Stevens Tech. The loss eliminates the Blue Jays from the tournament and concludes their season at 14-5-1.
The Goals:
- Bowdoin got on the scoreboard first in the 20th minute when Jamie Hofstetter finished a corner kick from Maggie Godley.
- The Blue Jays got the equalizer in the 39th minute of the foot of Thea Harvey-Brown, who finished a pass from Issy Berkey.
- Just 23 seconds into the second half, the Polar Bears took a 2-1 advantage. This time it was Godley assisting a feed from Hofstetter.
- Meg Van de Loo tied the game at two apiece in the 66th minute when she rebounded her own shot and put it in the back of the net.
- In the final minute of the contest, Bowdoin scored the winner when Wilson finished a pass from Hofstetter. Wilson put the ball just inside the post to win the game for the Bears.
Inside the Box Score:
- Hopkins outshot the Polar Bears 20-13 in the contest.
- Clara Aranguren made five saves in defeat for JHU
- Van de Loo's goal was her team-best 17th of the season.
- Bridget McCarthy made 10 saves to earn the victory.
