Hopkins Falls to Trinity in Durgala Memorial Championship

BALTIMORE, MD- The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team fell in the finals of the 2015 Mike Durgala Memorial Tournament on Saturday in Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Tigers defeated the Blue Jays (1-1) 67-33 to capture the tournament crown and improve to 5-0 on the season.

Trinity raced out to a fast start as Tournament MVP Anecia Richardson scored eight of the game's first 10 points. The Tigers extended their lead to 18-3 after one quarter and 33-13 at halftime, before pulling away even further in the second half. Trinity shot 34.8 (8-23) from 3-point range, while Hopkins shot just 5.6% (1-18) from long range.

Richardson led all scorers with a game-high 16 points to earn Tournament MVP honors. Trinity was well-represented on the All-Tournament Team as Mollie Hughes and Elizabeth Balido earned a spot on the team.

Rachel Cook led the Blue Jays in points with eight, while Marissa Varnado collected a team-best six rebounds. Janay Smith finished the tournament averaging 11 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game to earn All-Tournament distinction.

Hopkins will be back in action Tuesday when it heads to Gettysburg to open up its Centennial Conference slate. The Blue Jays and Bullets are scheduled to tip off at 8:00pm.
