Box Score

GETTYSBURG, PA – Cody Kiefer scored a career-best 34 points to lead host Gettysburg to n 83-70 win over the Johns Hopkins men's basketball team Tuesday night in both teams' Centennial Conference opener. The Blue Jays fall to 1-3 on the season with their second straight loss, while the Bullets improve to 3-1. Sophomore Kyle Doran led Hopkins with a career-best 20 points on the night.

Following a Matt Billups jumper that cut Gettysburg's lead to 6-4, Kiefer drained the first of his five three-pointers at the 17:35-mark to spark an 18-5 Bullets' run. Kiefer bookended the run, that saw Gettysburg's lead swell to 24-9 with 11:38 to play in the half, with another bucket from downtown. Senior Sam Gordon hit back-to-back layups to trim the deficit to 11 less than two minutes later.

The Bullets came right back with a 14-3 run to push out to a 38-16 lead with 4:01 on the clock. Consecutive three-pointers from Matt England and Kiefer ignited the run that saw four different players combine for the 14 points. Senior Matt Chiusano put back an Austin Vasiliadis miss, ending a more than four-minute scoring drought for the Blue Jays. Cam Stewart pushed the lead back to 22 with a pair of shots from the line, but six straight points from Hopkins, including a layup with 1.8 ticks on the clock from Vasiliadis, made it a 40-24 game at the break.

The Bullets' lead seesawed up and down over the first three minutes of the half and they led 47-29. Billups got a bucket in the paint and Doran followed with two free throws and the Blue Jays were off and running. That kick-started a 19-4 run that sliced Gettysburg's lead to just three with 11:45 to go. Doran did much of the damage for the Blue Jays, accounting for 14 of the 19 points. Freshman Daniel Vila put the punctuation on the run with two free throws and it was 51-48.

Three minutes later, the Bullets were still leading by three when Kiefer went on a run of his own, scoring five straight points and sparking a 13-4 run to push the lead to 68-56 with 4:50 to play. Hopkins wasn't going away however, using six points from Vasiliadis to claw back into it and trim the deficit to six just over two minutes later. Kevin Gladstone pressed the lead back to eight with two shots from the charity stripe, but a three from Vasiliadis quickly made it just a five-point game. That's as close as Hopkins could get as Gettysburg used a 10-2 run to close the game and take the win.

Doran went 6-of-12 from the field, and 4-of-6 from downtown, to finish with a career-best 20 points. Vasiliadis finished with 15 points, one shy of his career high, six assists and four steals. His six assists give him 245 for his career, ranking him sixth in school history. Billups chipped in eight points and a team-high six boards. Kiefer led all scorers with his 34 points, going 11-15 from the floor, including 5-of-8 from three-point. He also grabbed 10 rebounds and was one of two Bullets to post a double double. Gladstone added 18 points and 10 boards, while England also punched up 18 points.

Hopkins will return to action in one week as the Blue Jays host the McDaniel Green Terror on Tuesday, December 1. Tip-off at Goldfarb Gym is slated for 8:00 pm.
