Johns Hopkins Falls to #6 NYU, 49-38

BALTIMORE, MD- The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team fell behind 16-5 after the first quarter Saturday and struggled to come back, falling to #6 New York University 49-38. Hopkins drops to 2-2 after the loss, while NYU stays perfect through five games.

After trailing 16-5 through one quarter of play, Hopkins used a 7-0 run in the second quarter to cut the Violets' lead to 22-17 with just under a minute to play in the half. NYU scored the last four points of the half, however, to take a nine point lead into the locker room.

NYU opened its lead to as many as 15 at 32-17, but a JHU run capped off by a Rachel Cook jumper made the score 34-29 with 25 seconds left in the frame. A three-pointer from Maya Wasowicz as time expired extended the Violets' lead to eight heading into the final quarter.

The Violets pulled ahead in the fourth, leading by as many as 16 en route to the 11-point victory.

Leading the way for JHU was Liz Tommasi and Cook, who each tallied eight points. Katie Clark's collected eight points to lead the way on the boards. Megan Dawe had a game-best 12 points to go along with eight rebounds to lead NYU.

Hopkins will return to the court Tuesday for its first Centennial Conference home game. The Blue Jays will host McDaniel at 6pm back in Goldfarb Gymnasium.
