COLLEGEVILLE, PA- Sophia Way's career-high 13 points were not enough for the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team Saturday, as the Blue Jays fell to conference-foe Ursinus, 50-49, on the road. Hopkins slips to 2-4 on the season, while its Centennial conference record drops to 1-2.

Rachel Cook opened up the contest with a jumper in a back-and-forth first quarter that saw neither team lead by more than three points. Hopkins took a 10-9 advantage into the second quarter, which also saw both teams trade the lead multiple times. A pair of free throws from Rory Cole with 10 seconds left in the quarter gave Hopkins its largest lead of the half at 27-23.

Ursinus scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to take a 33-27 lead before a layup from Beatriz Williams ended the Bears' run. Hopkins scored 12 of the final 14 points in the quarter to take a 39-35 advantage into the final quarter.

Lillian Scott opened the scoring in the final frame, giving JHU its largest lead of the game at 41-35. A 6-0 Ursinus run would tie the game at 41 apiece with 7:17 left in the contest.

A layup from Cole with 3:02 remaining put the Blue Jays in front 47-43, but just 12 seconds later Caroline Shimrock hit a 3-pointer to cut the Hopkins lead to one point. A pair of buckets from Jessica Porada gave Ursinus a three-point lead late in the game.

The Jays had two opportunities to tie the game in the final seconds, but missed a three-point attempt and then chose to try and get a layup and draw a foul as time expired. Williams hit the layup as the buzzer sounded but did not get the foul call and the Bears hung on to win by one point.

Porada led all scorers with 24 points her 14 rebounds also were a game high. Way's 13 points paced the Blue Jays and Williams' seven rebounds led the team on the glass.

Johns Hopkins will travel to Annapolis Tuesday night for its final game of the semester. The Blue Jays will take on Division I Navy at 7pm in Alumni Hall on the campus of the United States Naval Academy.
