Box Score

CARLISLE, PA - A pair of free throws with 2.4 seconds left lifted host and ninth-ranked Dickinson to a 59-57 win over 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps the Blue Jays' school-record 17-game win streak and is just their third of the season as they fall to 20-3 overall and 14-2 in the CC. The Red Devils improve to 19-4 on the season and 12-4 in the conference while splitting the season series with the Jays.

A top-10 matchup between the top two teams in the Centennial Conference, this one lived up to the billing. The game featured 11 lead changes and nine ties with neither team leading by more than seven points. With the game tied at 57 apiece and 23 seconds to play, the Red Devils forced a turnover and Brandon Angradi was then fouled on a three-point attempt. He missed his first shot, but sank the second and third to give Dickinson a two-point lead. Junior Gene Williams had a shot to win it for the Blue Jays as time expired but his three-point shot just missed the mark.

Hopkins took a quick 5-2 lead after an Austin Vasiliadis three and a George Bugarinovic layup. But Dickinson battled back and went up 6-5 on a pair of Chris Cox free throws with 17:07 to go in the first half. Sophomore Ryan Curran swung the lead back to the Blue Jays with a layup and a three-pointer. The Red Devils cut the lead to one but a three-pointer from sophomore Nikhil Panu and a Bugarinovic jumper pushed the Jays' lead to six at the 12:37-mark.

The lead seesawed up and down from two points to seven as the teams battled on both ends of the court. Junior Matt Billups hit a basket in the paint to put Hopkins up 30-23 with 3:00 to go in the half. Gerry Wixted answered for Dickinson with a three-pointer, but Bugarinovic came right back with a layup and the lead was six. But Wixted wasn't done yet and converted a pair of free throws to make it a 32-28 game at the break.

Dickinson came out of the break with an Angradi triple and a Wixted layup to give the home team its first lead of the game since the 17:07-mark of the first half. Angradi pushed the Red Devils' lead to three with a pair of shots from the free throw line with 15:55 to go in the game. Senior Omar Randall ended a six-minute scoring drought for Hopkins with a bucket from downtown to tie the game at 35-all.

The teams traded buckets over the ensuing two and a half minutes before four unanswered points by Bugarinovic gave the Blue Jays a 41-39 lead. The teams continued to go back-and-forth as neither team could take more than a three-point lead and there were seven lead changes and five ties over the final 12 minutes.

Bugarinovic led all scorers with 22 points and posted his fifth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Curran added 10 points while junior Austin Vasiliadis handed out four assists. Wixted led the Red Devils with 21 points while Ted Hinnenkamp added 12.

Hopkins is back in action on Wednesday, February 18 as the Blue Jays make the short trip to Westminster to take on the McDaniel Green Terror. Tip-off at the Gill Center is slated for 8:00 pm in the Blue Jays' final regular season road game.
