Owings Mills, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday. The Blue Jays fell in a close four-set match to host Stevenson and then were defeated by Mary Washington in straight sets. Hopkins is now 5-7 in 2015.
Against Stevenson:
- Hopkins held a 14-9 advantage, but the Mustangs came back to tie it at 16. JHU broke a 24-24 tie with kills from Elizabeth Wuerstle and Kristi Rhead to win the set 26-24 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
- Stevenson broke a 14-14 tie, scoring five of the next six points to take a 19-15 lead and held on to win the set 25-21.
- The third set was close throughout as the margin never grew higher than three. JHU had a 24-23 lead, but could not get the decisive point and eventually dropped the set 27-25.
- Hopkins jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fourth set, but Stevenson rallied to tie the set at 17 apiece. The Mustangs then broke a 22-22 tie, scoring three of the final four points to win the set 25-23, and the match 3-1.
Against Mary Washington:
- The opening set was tied at 19-19, before MWU went on a run to take a three point lead and eventually win it 25-23.
- The Eagles scored the set's first three points and never looked back, en route to a 25-17 victory.
- In the third set, MWU broke open a one-point margin at 17-16, scoring eight of the final 10 points to win the set 25-18 and clinch the match.
Inside the Box Score:
- Stephanie Yokoyama finished with a match-best 29 digs against Stevenson.
- Ally Cox collected a double-double vs. the Mustangs, finishing with 17 kills and 12 digs.
- Carolyn Zin collected a match-best 26 assists vs. Stevenson.
Next Up: JHU will be off until next Saturday when the squad heads to Allentown, PA for a pair of matches against Muhlenberg and Richard Stockton. The match against the Mules will be Hopkins' second Centennial match of the season.
