Women's Soccer Wins Centennial Opener

BALTIMORE, MD- The Johns Hopkins women's soccer won its Centennial Conference opener for the 13th straight season, defeating Washington College 5-1 Saturday. JHU improves to 4-2-1 this season with the victory, while the Shorewomen fell to 2-4-0.

The Goals:
- Alaina Arthur got the Blue Jays on the scoreboard in just the third minute of the contest. The senior took a pass off the foot of Adrienne Johnson and beat the Washington goalkeeper to give Hopkins an early lead.
- In the 26th minute Ana Bengoechea fired a shot into the top right corner of the net to put Hopkins ahead 2-0. Bengoechea's second goal of the season was assisted by Hope Lundberg.
- Thirty-four seconds after Bengoechea's tally, Meg Van de Loo increased the JHU lead to 3-0. The senior's goal was also assisted by Lundberg who crossed a pass into the box that Van de Loo headed into the back of the net.
- Kristen Hori scored the Blue Jays' fourth goal of the first half in the 36th The freshman scored unassisted on a rebound off the Shorewomen goalkeeper.
- Washington got on the scoreboard in the 85th minute by way of a JHU own goal. A Hopkins defender passed the ball back to the goalkeeper and it wound up in the net.
- The last goal of the afternoon came off the foot of Alexa Rangecroft, the junior's third goal this fall. The tally was assisted by Vania Ludman, who crossed it into the box and Rangecroft headed it inside the post to give Hopkins a 5-1 lead in the 86th

Inside the Box Score:
- JHU outshot Washington 22-2, including 12-2 in shots on goal.
- Shorewomen goalkeeper Melissa Bary made seven saves in defeat.
- Ludman led Hopkins in shots, with four.

Up Next: Hopkins returns to action next Saturday when it travels to play Centennial foe Muhlenberg at 2:00 pm.
