BALTIMORE, MD - Beatriz Williams' double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) helped lead the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team to its third-straight win, as the Blue Jays defeated Ursinus 64-50 in Goldfarb Gymnasium. The win marks the first time Hopkins has won three straight this season and improved its record to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in Centennial Conference action.
Williams and the Lady Jays set the tone early. The senior scored 11 points in the first quarter to help JHU jump out to a 21-10 lead after ten minutes. Katie Clark totaled four assists in the opening frame, including a pair that came on three-pointers from Williams, her classmate and co-captain.
Hopkins increased its lead to 16 at the half, taking a 36-20 advantage into the locker room. Clark transformed from a playmaker to a scorer in the second quarter when she tallied five of her season-high 12 points.
The Blue Jays put the game away in the third quarter, leading by as many as 23 with 48 seconds left.
Ursinus made one final push in the fourth, using an 8-0 run to cut Hopkins' lead to just 11 with 3:18 left. Clark and Williams each drained a pair of free throws to seal the double-digit victory and help the Jays get revenge from a 50-49 loss to the Bears earlier this season in Collegeville, PA.
Williams' 16 points and 11 rebounds were game-highs in both categories, while Clark led all with six assists, one off of her career high set at Gettysburg during her sophomore season.
Caroline Corcoran and Lillian Scott each added nine points for JHU. Scott's point total set a new career-best.
Jessica Porada also collected a double-double, leading the Bears with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Hopkins will look to make it four straight victories Wednesday night when it travels to Carlisle, PA to take on Dickinson. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm in the Kline Center.
