CARLISLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night, falling to host Dickinson 48-42. The Red Devils win was their fifth straight, improving their overall record to 9-6 and Centennial Conference record to 6-4, while the Blue Jays fall to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in Centennial action.
The contest was close throughout, with the lead changing hands on seven different occasions. In the first half, neither squad led by more than four points. Hopkins led by one point after 20 minutes of play, outscoring Dickinson 22-21.
JHU opened the third quarter on an 8-1 run, increasing its lead to a game-high eight. Dickinson battled back, closing the frame on a run of its own to tie the game at 36 apiece heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter both teams traded baskets early on before the hosts scored 10 of the final 12 points to overcome a two-point deficit and win the game 48-42.
The Jays shot just 1-12 from long range and turned the ball over 21 times in the loss.
Rachel Cook and Beatriz Williams led Hopkins with eight points each. Cook also pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds, while Williams collected 11. Mary Martin scored a game-high 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Red Devils.
