? The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins water polo team split a pair of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference matches on Saturday afternoon. Hopkins beat host Fordham, 12-11, in double overtime and then fell 13-12 at Wagner.

How it Happened ? Fordham
? This one was a defensive battle early as Hopkins scored the only goal in the first quarter. Junior Adrian Suarez did the honors, getting the Blue Jays on the board with 2:16 to play in the first.
? It took more than six minutes for either team to get on the board and it was the Blue Jays once again. Sophomore Giorgio Cico converted a 6-on-5 at 4:08 to give JHU a 2-0 lead. The Rams finally got on the board 12 seconds later and then tied the game at the 1:20-mark. Cico added another man-up goal with 49 ticks on the clock to put the Jays back on top. The lead was short-lived as Fordham drew even just 18 seconds later.
? The Rams converted a five-meter shot just 31 seconds into the third quarter to take their first lead of the game. Sophomore Andreas Katsis answered on the next possession, tying the game at 4. Katsis added his second of the game at 4:17 to push the Jays ahead, 5-4.
? Fordham answered with the last goal of the third and the first of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead. The Blue Jays came right back with a strike from senior Matt Fraser but it was answered by the Rams and the home team led 7-6. The Blue Jays pulled ahead with 2:31 to play with back-to-back goals from Fraser and freshman Finn Banks.
? A 6-on-5 goal for Fordham tied the game at 8-all but Cico put Hopkins back on top with another man-up goal with 49 seconds on the clock. The Rams answered, scoring with 12 ticks left to tie the game and force overtime.
? The Rams picked up right where they left off, scoring the first two goals of the overtime to go up 11-9. The Blue Jays kept battling and got goals from Katsis and sophomore Josh Kurtz in the final 24 seconds to force a second overtime.
? Banks put Hopkins on top with 2:15 to play in the second overtime and the defense made the lead stand.

How it Happened ? Wagner
? Wagner jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Hopkins got on the board with a goal from sophomore Giorgio Cico with 3:00 to go in the first. Just 34 seconds later, freshman Finn Banks tied the game for the Blue Jays. Devin O'Donnell put the Seahawks back on top at 2:15 but sophomore Ryan Masi answered at the 1:19-mark to tie the game at 3-all. Sophomore Andreas Katsis then converted a 6-on-5 with 29 seconds to go to put JHU ahead.
? Wagner tied the game at the 5:00-mark in the second quarter and then retook the lead 94 seconds later. Hopkins answered quickly however as Cico cashed in on a man-up opportunity to tie the game at 5. Ciaran Wolohan responded for the home team, putting the Seahawks up with 1:59 to play. The Jays came right back with a 6-on-5 goal from senior Bret Pinsker to once again tie the game.
? Hopkins opened up the third quarter with goals from junior Adrian Suarez and Pinsker to go up 8-6. Wagner responded with a pair of goals to tie the game for the sixth time at the 3:42-mark. The Blue Jays came back with another two-goal spurt to take a 10-8 lead in the final quarter.
? Hopkins pushed its lead to three with a Matt Fraser goal at 6:20. Wagner answered with five straight goals, including a pair on 6-on-5 situations, to go up 13-11. Suarez would get a late goal for the Blue Jays to account for the final score.

What it Means
? Hopkins evened the season series with Fordham, avenging its 8-7 loss on September 24 at home. The Blue Jays are now 19-3 all-time against the Rams, including 4-0 in the Bronx. ? Hopkins is now 1-1 all-time against Wagner and splits the season series with the Seahawks.

? Pinsker also drew three ejections while freshmen Finn Banks and Andres White had two each.
? Junior John Wilson finished with 13 saves, one assist and one steal in the loss.
