The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins volleyball team fell 3-1 to Stevenson Thursday in Goldfarb Gym. Elizabeth Wuerstle led all players with 14 kills in the match.

How it Happened
• The teams played a close first set, featuring five tied scores before Stevenson pulled away to a 19-12 lead. Elizabeth Wuerstle led Johns Hopkins with four kills, while Kristi Rhead added in three without an error. Sarah Elnozahy assisted 11 of JHU's 12 kills in the first set.
• The Blue Jays gained an early 6-1 lead behind the serve of Wuerstle, who notched three service aces in the set. Hopkins recorded more kills and blocks than the Mustangs in the second set and also posted five aces, while Stevenson did not serve an ace in the set. Louisa Kishton led JHU with four kills in the set, and Esther Hong recorded five digs.
• Wuerstle led Johns Hopkins again in the third set with four kills, while Elnozahy contributed a perfect three kills on three attacks and nine assists. The Blue Jays earned just one fewer kill than the Mustangs, who combined offensive and defensive success for their most dominant set win.
• Stevenson's block stepped up in the final set to help earn the win over Hopkins. The Blue Jays tallied more kills than the Mustangs, with Rhead leading the team with four in the final set, but Stevenson notched five total blocks, to JHU's two. After six ties, the Mustangs pulled away for the 25-21 win, with the four-point difference tying the largest margin of separation in the set.

Inside the Box Score
Kristi Rhead tallied a season-high 12 kills in the match, her first double-digit output of the season.
Sarah Elnozahy dished out 41 assists, seven shy of her single-match high of 48 assists and a record for a four-set match.
• Hopkins served eight aces in the match, while Stevenson recorded only seven service aces. This is the 17th time that JHU has served more aces than its opponent this season.

What it Means
• Johns Hopkins finishes its nonconference schedule with a 7-8 record.
• This is the sixth straight loss to Stevenson by the Blue Jays with Hopkins holding an 8-7 record against the Mustangs all-time.
