• The Short Story: Host Salisbury led wire-to-wire in a 74-49 win over the Johns Hopkins men's basketball team in the championship game of the Optimist Tournament Saturday. Graduate student Sam Gordon led the Blue Jays in scoring for the second time in three games with 10 points.
How it Happened
• Salisbury scored the game's first 11 points before Ryan Curran got the Blue Jays on the board with a layup at the 17:21-mark. The Sea Gulls answered with back-to-back tip-ins to go up 15-2 with 14:08 to go. The teams then traded buckets for the next nine minutes and the home team led 24-13. Salisbury followed with a quick 7-1 spurt to push its lead to 17 with 1:53 to play. Gordon scored what turned out to be the final bucket of the first half with 1:20 on the clock, making it a 31-16 game at the break.
• The Sea Gulls opened the second half with a pair of technical free throws to extend their lead to 17. The Blue Jays came right back with a free throw from graduate student Austin Vasiliadis and a Gordon jumper to make it 33-19 at the 19:04-mark. The teams swapped baskets over a 90-second period and SU led 41-23.
• Hopkins trimmed the deficit back to 13 with five straight points from Vasiliadis, including a conventional three-point play. Chad Barcikowski answered with a three-point play of his own to spark a 12-3 Sea Gull run that their lead balloon to 22 with 10:39 to play. The Blue Jays chipped away at the deficit, pulling to within 15 with a 13-6 spurt, capped by a fast-break dunk by sophomore Daniel Vila. Salisbury answered with an 15-4 run of its own, fueled by a trio of three-pointers, to push out to a 26-point lead.

• Johns Hopkins is 5-3 all-time versus Salisbury with the Sea Gulls winning the last two meetings.
Inside the Box Score
• Gordon was the only Blue Jay to finish in double figures as he scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Vasiliadis scored nine points while Curran and Vila each chipped in eight points. Vila's eight points were a career high.
• Barcikowski paced three Sea Gulls in double digits with a game-high 25 points, with 18 of those coming from downtown. Wyatt Smith just missed a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds in addition to three blocks. Justin Witmer added 12 points while also handing out six assists.

• Johns Hopkins opens the home portion of its schedule, as well as Centennial Conference play on Tuesday, November 22. Hopkins will take on McDaniel at Goldfarb Gym at 8:00 pm.
