? The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team defeated Swarthmore 81-69 Tuesday in Goldfarb Gym. The Blue Jays knocked down 12 three-pointers in the victory, led by Lillian Scott's 19 points and four three-pointers.
How it Happened
? The teams played to an 8-8 score 4:47 into the game before Swarthmore mounted a 15-4 run to to take a 23-12 lead with 1:50 remaining in the opening quarter. The Garnet had the hot hand to begin the game, shooting 10-of-16 from the floor and 3-of-5 from behind the three-point arc iin the first quarter. The Blue Jays shot 6-of-16 to open the game, led by Marissa Varnado, who shot 2-of-2, including a three-pointer in the first quarter. Rory Cole made two blocks in the quarter, including a block on the opening shot by Swarthmore.
? Johns Hopkins flipped the script in the second quarter, shooting an astounding 5-of-7 from three-point arc to pull away to a 39-35 lead at the half. The Garnet scored the first basket of the second quarter before Madison McGrath and Caroline Corcoran hit back-to-back threes to cut Swarthmore's lead to 27-25 with 8:34 reamining in the first half. The Blue Jays closed the second quarter on a 13-3 run with five different players scoring a basket in the run.
? At halftime, Varnado led the Blue Jays with nine points and perfect shot percentage, while Lillian Scott and Corcoran each contributed eight points, including two three-pointers apiece. Cole and Lexie Scholtz led the team with three assists each and added six rebounds and five rebounds, respectively.
