• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team battled host Goucher for 110 minutes in a 1-1 tie in both teams' season opener. Junior Drew Collins scored the first goal of the season for the Blue Jays.
How it Happened
• Johns Hopkins dominated play from the opening whistle, outshooting Goucher, 28-4. The Blue Jays also had seven corners, to just one for the home team.
• Junior Drew Collins got the Blue Jays on the board, scoring the first goal of the season, in the 71st minute to put the visitors on top. Sophomore Cole Rosenberger drew a defender to him and then found Collins open in the middle of the field. Collins took one touch and then buried a low shot into the bottom left corner from 24 yards out.
• Goucher drew level in the 87th minute, capitalizing on a free kick near midfield. Gopher goalie Daniel Hendry struck the free kick and Dalton Kraus headed it past senior Bryan See to knot the score at 1-1.
• Hopkins had several good chances in the final minutes of regulation and overtime, but could not get one past Hendry.
What it Means
• Hopkins is now 7-0-2 all-time against Goucher, including 3-0-1 in Towson.
• The Blue Jays are unbeaten in three of their last four season openers.
