Johns Hopkins Shuts Out Stevenson, 4-0

Box Score Sept. 21, 2016

Box Score

The Basics
• Score: Johns Hopkins-4, Stevenson-0
• Records: JHU (5-1-2) • SU (0-7-1)
• Location: Owings Mills, MD • Mustang Stadium
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team closed out a three-game road swing with a 4-0 win at Stevenson on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays got goals from four different scorers as they improved to 5-1-2 on the season and posted their fifth shutout.

How it Happened
• Freshman Liam Moylan put the Blue Jays on the board early with his first goal of the season. Senior Samy Ramadane sent a corner kick into the box and sophomore Cole Rosenberger headed it to Moylan, who slipped a shot past Michael Tringali in the 11th minute.
• A pair of freshmen connected in the 43rd minute to give Hopkins a 2-0 lead. Matthew MacFarquhar took a pass from classmate Achim Younker at the top of the box and buried a shot in the upper left corner.
• Hopkins pushed its lead to 3-0 in the 57th minute and this time it was Moylan who did the assisting. He played the ball back to Ramadane, who ran onto it and one-timed a shot under Tringali and inside the left post.
• Sophomore Gerrit Church made it a four-goal game in the 72nd minute with a highlight reel goal. Dribbling down the right touchline, sophomore Sebastian Salathe crossed the ball to the opposite side of the box. Church settled the ball, faked out a defender and then fired a shot just inside the far post.

What it Means
• Johns Hopkins is now 3-0-0 all-time against Stevenson (formerly Villa Julie) in the first meeting between the two since August 30, 2003. The Blue Jays have outscored the Mustangs 15-0-0 in three meetings in the series.
• Hopkins improves to 5-1-2, its best start since the 2010 season when JHU was 6-1-1 through eight games. The Blue Jays finished that year with a 15-4-4 record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
