• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins water polo team dropped a tough 12-11 decision to 13th-ranked Bucknell on Sunday in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference action. The Blue Jays wrap up a four-game homestand with a 2-2 record in league play.

How it Happened
• Bucknell jumped on top of Hopkins quickly, scoring the game's first two goals. Sophomore Giorgio Cico put Hopkins on the board with 4:47 to play in the first quarter with a 6-on-5 goal to make it a 2-1 game. The Bison answered with a four straight goals to push out to a 6-1 lead with 5:26 still to play in the second.
• Freshman Andres White ended the visitors' run with a man-up goal to spark a three-goal spurt that saw the Jays trim the deficit to 6-4. Bucknell pushed the lead back to three thanks to a goal with 40 seconds remaining in the half.
• Hopkins opened the third-quarter scoring with a man-up goal from sophomore Andreas Katsis just 39 seconds in. But Bucknell responded with consecutive goals to extend its lead to 9-5. Freshman Finn Banks ignited a four-goal Blue Jay run with his strike at 3:07. Senior Matt Fraser capped the run and tied the game at 9-all with 5:29 to go in the game.
• The Bison came right back, taking the lead 18 seconds later. But the Jays would once again tie it with a Banks goal at the 2:43-mark. Bucknell took the lead back for good with 1:33 to play and then tacked on a much-needed insurance goal with 32 ticks left. Hopkins would make it a one-goal game with 16 seconds remaining, but that would do it for the scoring.

What it Means
• Johns Hopkins is 24-42 all-time against Bucknell as the Bison win in Baltimore for the first time since October 16, 2009.
• The Blue Jays sit in a three-way tie for second place in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference with four points

Inside the Box Score
• Sophomores Giorgio Cico and Josh Kurtz led the Blue Jays with five points each. Cico punched up a team-high four goals to go with one assist and two steals. Kurtz scored twice and handed out three assists while also grabbing four steals.
• Senior Matt Fraser drew three ejections and freshman Finn Banks chipped in three points (2g, 1a).
• Junior John Wilson stopped 16 shots and had a steal in the loss for the Blue Jays.

• Johns Hopkins travels to the Empire State on Saturday, October 1 for a pair of conference games at Fordham (Noon) and Wagner (5:00 pm).
