• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team fell, 75-65, at No. 17 New York University Monday. Sophomore Lillian Scott led the Blue Jays with a career-high 24 points in the loss.
How it Happened
• The Blue Jays struggled to find the net in the opening quarter, going the first 4:50 without scoring a basket. Lexie Scholtz scored the first field goal for Hopkins before sinking a pair of free throws 14 seconds later to cut NYU's lead to 6-4 with 4:56 remaining in the first quarter. The Violets' Amy Harioka responded, scoring the 10 final points for the first period for NYU. A three-pointer by Caroline Corcoran and a pair of layups by Rory Cole and Lillian Scott in the final 26 seconds closed out the first quarter with a 16-13 score.
• Johns Hopkins earned another slow start to begin the second quarter, scoring just three points in the first 3:17. The Violets stretched their lead to 25-16 in that time, with Kayla Patterson contributing the first nine points of the second quarter for NYU. The Blue Jays responded with back-to-back three-pointers by Madison McGrath and Marissa Varnado before Scott hit her second trey of the period to cut NYU's lead to 30-27 with 3:40 remaining in the first half. New York University scored four of the final six points for a 34-29 lead at halftime.
• The Blue Jays came out firing from the half, cutting NYU's lead to one point on two occasions, including a 39-38 score with 7:21 to play in the third quarter. The Violets turned the momentum following a timeout and outscored Hopkins 19-6 in the final 7:00 of the quarter, including a 9-0 run in the final 3:37 of the third quarter.
• Hopkins outscored NYU 21-17 in the final frame, including nine points from Scott. Scott kicked off the scoring in the fourth quarter and posted seven points in the first 5:45. Cole, Scholtz and Varnado each added at least one basket in a span of 1:40 to help cut the Violets' lead to 71-58 with 2:15 remaining in the game. The Blue Jays outscored NYU 7-2 in the final 43 seconds of the game for the final score of 75-65.
• Scott tied for the most points by any player in the game with 24, and her three three-pointers were also tied for the most by any player. Corcoran contributed 12 points, including two three-pointers. Cole led the Blue Jays with eight rebounds, while Varnado collected three steals in the game.

• Lillian Scott scored a career-high 24 points in the loss. She is the first Blue Jay to score at least 20 points in a game since Beatriz Williams scored 25 against Washington College January 21, 2015.
• Each team had two players responsible for more than 50 percent of its points. Scott and Caroline Corcoran combined for 36 of JHU's 65 points, while NYU's Kayla Patterson and Amy Harioka recorded 45 of its 75 points.
