? The Short Story: Host and 17th-ranked Bucknell outscored the Johns Hopkins water polo team, 7-1, in the second half to win 14-5 on Saturday morning in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) action.
How it Happened
? Jeff Hagen scored the game's first two goals to stake the home team to an early 2-0 lead. Freshman Nico Ivanov cut the deficit in half for the Blue Jays with the first of his two goals with 1:14 to play in the first.
? Junior Connor Johnson then tied the game at 6:31 in the second quarter. Marko Djordjevic and Cooper Dolan answered with back-to-back goals in a 66-second span to put Bucknell back on top, 4-2. Ivanov found the net again just 14 seconds later to make it a one-goal game.
? Bucknell answered with three straight goals, from three different players, to push out to a 7-3 lead with 1:17 to go in the half. Freshman Olin Shipstead ended the Bison run with a goal for the Blue Jays at 1:13.
? The pace slowed in the third quarter and Bucknell got the period's only two goals in the final two minutes to extend its lead to 9-4. The Bison picked up where they left off in the fourth, scoring five more goals to push out to a 14-4 lead. Senior Jono Gillette ended the run when he scored with 40 ticks on the clock to account for the 14-5 final.
