Box Score March 11, 2017

Box Score

The Basics
• Score: #19 Johns Hopkins-12, Hofstra-4
• Records: JHU (7-1) • HU (2-3)
• Location: Hempstead, NY • Shuart Stadium
• The Short Story: The 19th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team scored the game's first five goals and never looked back in a 12-4 win over host Hofstra Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Freshman Lexi Souder put the Blue Jays on the board just 1:37 in to give Hopkins the early lead. Sophomore Nicole DeMase dumped the ball to Souder, who was open in the fan, and she turned and beat Maddie Fields low.
• DeMase was on the receiving end eight minutes later for the Jays' second goal. Souder drew a free position shot and passed to DeMase, who was open on the left post. She caught the pass, faked and then scored from in tight.
• Sophomore Miranda Ibello scored back-to-back goals in just a 19-second span to double Hopkins lead at the 16:05-mark. Freshman Maggie Schneidereith, right goal line extended, slipped a pass to Ibello and she scored on a quick-stick on the doorstep. On the ensuing possession, DeMase carried into the offensive third and drew a slide before finding Ibello open in the fan. Ibello took the pass and scored on a sidearm shot from six meters out.
• Schneidereith pushed the lead to five when she took a pass from junior Shannon Fitzgerald and scored on a lefty shot with a defender on her at 9:24.
• Alyssa Parrella ended the scoring drought for the Pride when she converted a free position shot 54 seconds later. DeMase would made it a five-goal game at the half with a free position goal at 1:28.
• Hopkins didn't waste any time in the second, scoring a pair of goals just 10 seconds apart, in the opening minute. From behind the goal, Schneidereith fed a pass over the top to senior Alexis Maffucci, who scored on a quick stick from the right alley. Souder one the draw and some nice tic-tac-toe passing finished with Fitzgerald finding Schneidereith on the right post for the score.
• Parrella scored her second of the day with 28:01 to play as she dodged the left alley and scored high-to-low to make it an 8-2 game.
• The Blue Jays answered with another pair of quick goals to push out to a 10-2 lead. DeMase scored on free position for her third goal of the game at 25:06. Just 14 seconds later, freshman Evan Klaus took a feed from Schneidereith in the right alley and scored on the run.
• Klaus scored her second straight goal five minutes later to give Hopkins a nine-goal lead. She dodged the right alley, spun on her defender and fired a shot inside the right post at 19:45. The Blue Jays lead grew to 10 when Fitzgerald scored on the run six minutes later.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 5-2 all-time against Hofstra and has won five straight in the series.

• The four goals are the fewest the Blue Jays have allowed this season and the fewest since a 17-3 win over Furman on March 26, 2016. Hopkins held Hofstra scoreless for periods of 21:42 and 25:28.
• DeMase tallied her fourth hat trick of the season and her five points are one shy of her career high.
