The Basics

• Location: Annapolis, MD • Lejeune Hall
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's swim team took on a trio of Division I teams in Annapolis on Friday afternoon. After a two-week hiatus, Hopkins faced off against Towson, William & Mary and host Navy.  
 
Quoting Coach Armstrong
• "Tonight was a great test of the team's resolve. Facing up to three very good Division I teams was the kind of challenge we seek out. Tomorrow will be a great test of our ability to comeback on a second day against tough competition."
 
Top Finishers
• Hopkins opened the afternoon with a fifth-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay by freshman Sydney Okubo, junior Sonia Lin, senior Natalia Rincon and junior Alison Shapiro in 1:47.71.
• Senior Rabia Syed then took 10th place in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:56.30.
• Sophomore Emma McElrath grabbed fifth place in the 200 Free as she clocked in a 1:53.96. She also took seventh in the 200 Back with a time of 2:06.26.
• The 100 Free saw junior Claire State and Lin finish 10th and 11th in 1:00.88 and 1:01.24, respectively. Lin would also take sixth place in the 200 Breast (2:24.44) and seventh in the 100 IM (1:00.97).
• Okubo posted a seventh-place finish in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:07.14. She would later take sixth place in the 100 Fly in 57.37.
• Freshman Elaine Lipkin placed seventh in the 200 Fly as she touched in 2:07.45. Later in the day, she finished in seventh place in the 500 Free with a time of 5:08.10.
• Freshman Kristen Alicea-Jorgensen led the Blue Jays with a sixth-place finish (24.44) in the 50 Free. Junior Kiki Petersen touched just nine-hundredths of a second later to finish in eighth.
• Freshman Sophia Girgenti finished in 11th place in the 100 Free in 54.48.
• The Blue Jays would end the night with a third-place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Alicea-Jorgensen, junior Michelle Wang, Girgenti and Shapiro combined for a time of 1:37.67. The team of Okubo, sophomore Mikayla Bisignani, Rincon and senior Emily Cheng finished in fifth place and a time of 1:39.36.
 
Up Next
• It will be a quick turnaround for the Blue Jays, as Hopkins travels to Lewisburg, PA to take on host Bucknell on Saturday. The meet is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start at Kinney Natatorium. Fans can follow the results here: http://sidearmstats.com/bucknell/swimming/index.htm
