• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins volleyball team defeated visiting Stevens Tech, 3-1 on Senior Day as the Blue Jays concluded the regular season with a perfect 6-0 record.
How it Happened
SET 1
•The Ducks went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-7 lead over the Blue Jays in the opening set. A kill from
Lauren Anthony ended the Stevens run, but the visitors went on a 4-2 run to go up 16-10.
• Johns Hopkins scored six of the next seven points to get to within one at 17-16, however, Stevens scored the next three points to take a 20-16 lead and force a Hopkins timeout.
• Out of the timeout, JHU went on a 5-1 run as an attacking error by the Ducks tied the set at 21. The Blue Jays would get to set point, but Stevens held the Blue Jays off on three occasions before back-to-back kills from
Eleni Panagopoulos sealed the 28-26 victory.
SET 2
•Stevens once again took an early lead as the Ducks opened the set scoring five of the first six points.
• Six straight Blue Jay points turned a 7-4 deficit into a 9-7 lead for the home team.
• The Ducks hung around but were unable to match Hopkins as a kill from
Simone Bliss gave Hopkins a 25-19 win.
SET 3
• The Ducks continued their trend of getting out to early leads as they went up 6-2 to open the set.
• A 4-1 run by Hopkins got the Blue Jays within one point at 7-6, but the Ducks scored the next two points to make the score 9-6.
• Stevens went on a 7-0 run to take a 20-11 lead and would win the set 25-16 to stay in the match.
SET 4
• The Blue Jays once again found themselves in an early hole as the visitors took a 5-3 lead early in the set.
• Back-to-back kills from
Louisa Kishton made it a one-point set at 8-7, but Stevens scored the next two points to take a 10-7 advantage.
• Stevens slowly pulled out to a 17-13 lead which forced a Blue Jay timeout. Out of the timeout, JHU scored three-straight to make it a one-point set.
• Trailing by three, Hopkins scored three straight points to tie the match at 20, however, Stevens responded with two straight points to take a 22-20 lead. JHU then scored the next three points as an ace from Kishton gave Johns Hopkins its first lead of the set at 23-22.
• Stevens tied the match on a bad set by Hopkins, however, the Blue Jays scored the next two points as a
Morgan Wu ace gave Johns Hopkins the 25-23 win.
What it Means
• This was just the second meeting between the two teams as the series is now even at one.
• JHU finished the season with a non-conference record of 11-5.
• Prior to the start of tonight's match, Johns Hopkins honored its three seniors,
Michelle Abt,
Sasha Gorelik, and
Esther Hong.
Inside the Box Score
• Bliss recorded her 19th-straight match with double-digit kills as the sophomore registered a team-leading 17 in the match. Anthony also finished with double-digit kills as the freshman added 10 in the match.
• Kishton recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 18 digs.
• Abt finished the match with 12 digs while Hong added eight. Gorelik added an ace in her last regular season match at Goldfarb.

Nicole Hada finished with a match-high 49 assists.

• The Blue Jays wrap up the regular season with a key Centennial Conference match-up against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, October 27th at 1pm. The winner of the match will be the top seed in the conference tournament and host the championship. The Diplomats currently sport a perfect 9-0 record in conference play.
