The Short Story: The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins water polo team wrapped up the 2018 Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament with losses to second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Redlands Saturday.

How it Happened • Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
• Junior
Finn Banks gave the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead but the Stags answered with three straight to go up 3-1 with 1:54 to play in the first. Senior
Giorgio Cico cut the deficit in half with a goal at 1:25, but CMS got goals from Eric Warmoth and Samuel Harrison to take a 5-2 lead at the end of one.
• Freshman
Emerson Sullivan opened the second quarter scoring and made it a two-goal game. CMS responded with back-to-back goals in a 56-second span to push its lead to 7-3 with 2:01 to go in the period. Sophomore
Olin Shipstead ended the run with a goal with 29 ticks on the clock and Hopkins trailed 7-4 at the half.
• Zack Rossman scored just 32 seconds into the third quarter to push the lead back to four. Cico and junior
Nico Ivanov followed with back-to-back strikes and the lead was sliced in half at the 3:58-mark. Barron Banta and Andrew Wraith then sandwiched a pair of goals around one from Sullivan and the Stags led 10-7 after three.

Josh Kurtz scored to pull the Blue Jays back within two midway through the fourth quarter, but CMS would tack on two more to grab the win.

How it Happened • Redlands
• Sullivan opened the scoring just 23 seconds in, but less than a minute later the game was tied on a Cooper Krause goal. Sullivan and junior
Andreas Katsis responded with a pair of goals to give the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead. The Bulldogs answered however with three straight to take a 4-3 lead after one.
• Freshman
Jayden Kunwar scored just 25 seconds into the second to pull Hopkins even, but another three-goal Redlands' run put the Bulldogs up 7-4 at the 5:19-mark. Cico halted the run with his goal at 4:07, but Redlands once again responded with a three-goal spurt to go up 10-5 with 1:09 left in the quarter. Kunwar stopped the run this time, scoring with 26 seconds remaining to make it a 10-6 game at the half.
• Yet another three-goal run to open the third quarter pushed the Bulldogs' lead to 13-6. Kunwar scored with 1:24 remaining in the third to spark a four-goal Blue Jay run as they trimmed the deficit to three with 54 seconds to play. Hopkins could get no closer and Redlands tacked on one more score before time expired.

• Hopkins slips to 6-6 all-time against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and falls to the Stags for the first time since 2015. The Blue Jays fall to 3-11 all-time against the Bulldogs, who have now won four straight in the series.

• Cico and Sullivan scored two goals each to lead Hopkins versus CMS. Cico also handed out three assists and Ivanov drew five ejections. Senior
Spencer Witte made 13 saves in the loss.
• Kunwar and Sullivan netted a hat trick each against the Bulldogs, while Cico added a pair of goals. Witte posted six saves for the Blue Jays.
