Franklin & Marshall Tops Johns Hopkins, 2-0, In Centennial Semifinals

Blue Jays Await Possible NCAA At-Large Berth

The Basics

• The Short Story: Franklin & Marshall rode a pair of first-half goals to a 2-0 win over the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team in the second Centennial Conference semifinal Saturday afternoon.
 
How it Happened
• Senior Griffin Cyphers had a great chance in the 17th minute to put the Blue Jays ahead with a chip shot from the top of the F&M box. A leaping Sebastian Jenkins was able to get a glove on it to knock it out of bounds.
• The Diplomats grabbed the early lead with Steven Yakita's goal in the 19th minute. Dallen Moore played a long ball from the Dips' defensive end to the top of the Blue Jays' box. The ball was headed by a defender before Yakita ran onto the loose ball and chipped it over an on-coming Xander LeFevre.
• Junior Achim Younker had a good look at goal in the 22ndminute, but his header just went over the crossbar.
• Franklin & Marshall doubled its lead in the 33rd minute after a give-and-go between Robert Maze and Ryan Corr. Corr slotted a pass through the defense to Maze, who scored on a low shot from the top of the box.
• Freshman Brian Lenzer had a chance to slice the deficit in half in the 84th minute, but Jenkins was there to make the save.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins slips to 40-25-8 all-time against Franklin & Marshall, including 3-1-1 in the Centennial Conference Tournament. The Blue Jays won the regular season meeting between the two, 4-1, at Homewood Field.
 
Inside the Box Score
• LeFevre finished with five saves in the loss for the Blue Jays while Jenkins made three for the Diplomats.
• Franklin & Marshall had the edge in shots, 13-9, and corners, 4-3.
