Lillian Scott, the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team defeated Washington College, 62-48 on Wednesday night.
How it Happened
• Two three-pointers from
Madison McGrath early in the first gave Hopkins a 6-2 lead with 8:24 gone by.
Lillian Scott extended the JHU lead to six with a layup, and McGrath scored her eighth point of the quarter to put the Blue Jays up 10-2. Caitlyn Clark hit a jumper to bring the Shorewomen to within six, and Taylor Samuels brought Washington College to within four at the 4:36 mark with a jumper.
Maggie Wodicka hit from deep to put the Blue Jays up seven and a layup from
Maggie Spitzer gave Johns Hopkins a 15-6 advantage with 3:40 remaining in the quarter. The Shorewomen got within six at 1:44, however, Scott and Wodicka converted on their two-point attempts to give JHU a ten-point advantage with 41 seconds remaining, as Hopkins ended the quarter up 19-9.
• Washington College opened the second quarter on a 4-0 run to get to within six, but Scott went in for the layup to put the Blue Jays up 21-13. Two free-throws by Scott gave JHU a 24-13 lead and Hopkins went into the half leading 25-16.

Lexie Scholtz increased the JHU lead to 11 with a layup 20 seconds into the third, but four-straight points by the Shorewomen made the score 27-20. McGrath hit another three to put Hopkins back up ten, but Cassidy Quattro got the Washington College deficit to single-digits with a jumper. JHU outscored the Shorewomen 15-10 down the stretch in the third to head into the final quarter with a 48-34 lead.
• JHU continued to hold onto a double-digit lead in the fourth as the Blue Jays went onto win the game by a score of 62-48.
What it Means
• JHU is 12-3 on Valentine's Day.
• The Blue Jays are now 37-3 against the Shorewomen and have won the last 11 meetings.
• Hopkins has now won 15 games for the first time since the 2014-15 season, and JHU has won 14 Centennial Conference games for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign.
