Three Blue Jays Selected in 2018 MLL Draft

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team had three players selected in the 2018 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Draft on Wednesday, April 19. This is the 12th time in the 18 years the MLL has existed that Johns Hopkins has had at least three players drafted, including each of the last six. Johns Hopkins' 2018 MLL Draft picks:

Joel Tinney (Sr. • M)
1st Round | 5th Overall | New York Lizards
Tinney becomes the ninth Johns Hopkins player selected in the top five in the draft's history and the 14th top 10 pick. The versatile midfielder has started every game of his career and counts 60 goals, 43 assists, 95 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers to his credit. Tinney was a Third Team USILA All-American as a freshman and a second team selection last season while also twice earning All-Big Ten (1st Team in 2017 | Honorable Mention in 2015) and Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors during his career as well.

Tinney joins a New York roster that features former Blue Jays Paul Rabil '08 and Brian Carcaterra '00.

6th Round | 49th Overall | Chesapeake Bayhawks
A two-time Honorable Mention USILA All-American, Stanwick counts career totals of 89 goals and 106 assists for 195 points to his credit. He holds the Johns Hopkins record for consecutive games with a point (58) and is one of just three players in school history with more than 85 goals and 100 assists. Stanwick is currently one of 10 finalists nationwide for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award and is the third Stanwick to be drafted into the MLL.

Hunter Moreland (Sr. • FO)
7th Round | 63rd Overall | Dallas Rattlers
Moreland has been a four-year regular as a faceoff specialist for the Blue Jays and has moved among the career faceoff leaders in school history. He currently ranks fifth in school history in career faceoff attempts (756) and sixth in career faceoff wins (432); he also counts four goals, seven assists and 186 ground balls to his credit.

Moreland joins a Dallas roster that includes former Blue Jay John Ranagan '13.

• Johns Hopkins' three selections in the 2018 draft boost the Blue Jays' all-time total to 52 selections since 2001.

• Of the nine Blue Jays selected all-time in the top five (including Tinney), seven have been midfielders.

• Moreland is the first Blue Jay faceoff specialist drafted since Mike Poppleton in 2013.

• Stanwick in the 11th Blue Jay attackman to be drafted; JHU has had at least one attackman drafted in six of the last seven years.
