• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins volleyball team opened  the 2018 season with a 3-0 victory over Goucher on the road on Friday night.

How it Happened

SET ONE
• JHU opened the first set on a 3-0 run as Michelle Abt registered the first point of the game and back-to-back kills from Louisa Kishton gave Hopkins a 3-0 lead.
• With the score 11-4, Johns Hopkins went on a 6-0 run to increase its lead to 17-4. A kill from Kaya Melchor stopped the Hopkins rally, but the Blue Jays scored eight of the next 10 points to take the set 25-7.

SET TWO
• The Gophers got to within one at 5-4 in the second, however, the Blue Jays notched the next six points, capped by a kill from Simone Bliss, to make the score 11-4.
• With the score 16-11, the Blue Jays went on another run, this time scoring the final nine points to win the set, 25-11.

SET THREE
• Set three opened with seven ties before Hopkins was able to go in a 7-1 run to make the score 15-10.
• Goucher kept the third set close, but the Blue Jays were able to hold on as Hopkins took the third and final set by a score of 25-17.

What it Means
• Hopkins has won three of its last four season openers.
• JHU is now 32-8 against Goucher and the Blue Jays have won the last 18 matches.
• Johns Hopkins has won the last eight matches against the Gophers by a 3-0 score.

• Kishton led the Blue Jays with 16 kills while Bliss notched eight kills and Micaelle Larrieux added six.
• Sarah Khan and Michelle Abt registered five digs each while Kishton and Esther Hong had four each.
