Santangelo's Hat Trick Lifts Blue Jays Over Shorewomen, 4-1

Santangelo has five goals on the year

The Basics

• The Short Story: Led by a hat trick from Michelle Santangelo, the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team handed Washington College its first loss of the season as the Blue Jays defeated the Shorewomen 4-1 under the lights on Homewood Field.

How it Happened
Kristen Hori opened up the scoring for the Blue Jays as she took a long pass from Maggie Coulson and raced down the left side of the field and buried the shot into the right corner of the net at 13:23.
• Santangelo scored her first goal of the game off a Cristina Madalo pass. Santangelo used her speed to catch up to the outlet pass and made a nice move to get past the keeper and split the defense and bury the ball into the net at 38:58.
• Washington College cut the JHU lead in half at the 55-minute mark as Emily Jacoby took a pass from Bess Mascone and got the ball past the Hopkins defense and into the back of the net to make the score 2-1.
• Santangelo scored her second goal of the game as she made a nice move on her defender and put the ball past the WC goalkeeper at 70:55 to put Hopkins up 3-1.
• The hat trick for Santangelo was completed as Katie Whittington set her up off a corner kick and Santangelo headed the ball in at 82:52 as the Blue Jays took the 4-1 win.

What it Means
• Hopkins has yet to lose to the Shorewomen as the Blue Jays lead the all-time series 20-0. In those 20 matches, Johns Hopkins has given up just three goals.

• Santangelo recorded the first hat trick for the Blue Jays this season as she now has five goals and 11 points on the year.
• Hori now has three goals this season.
Robyn Lipschultz earned her fourth win in net as she made two saves in the game.
• The Blue Jays outshot the Shorewomen 15-4 and put eight shots on net compared to the three for WC.
