The Basics

• The Short Story: Marko Djordjevic scored a man-up goal with just six ticks remaining to lift 15th-ranked Bucknell to an 18-17 win over the host Johns Hopkins water polo team Sunday afternoon.
 
How it Happened
• With the teams tied at one with 4:26 to play in the opening quarter, Logan Schofield scored for the Bison to ignite a four-goal spurt. Djordjevic capped the run at the 2:11-mark to put Bucknell up 5-1. Senior Josh Kurtz ended the run with back-to-back goals to kick-start a 5-1 Hopkins' run that saw the Blue Jays tie the match at six-all on sophomore John Murphy's goal at 5:04 in the second.
• Rade Joksimovic put Bucknell back on top just 24 seconds later, but a goal from sophomore Olin Shipstead evened the score at seven. The Bison responded with three straight goals, in a span of just 74 seconds, to push out to a 9-7 lead. The Blue Jays answered with a three-goal run of their own to take a 10-9 lead into the half.
• Coming out of the half, Bucknelll scored three unanswered to go up two with 4:56 to play in the third. The teams swapped scores over the ensuing three minutes and Bucknell led 15-13. Freshman Jayden Kunwar closed out the third-quarter scoring with just nine seconds left to cut the deficit to one heading into the final quarter.
• Junior Nico Ivanov struck first to open the fourth and the teams were tied at 15. Jared Stanley and put the Bison back on top just 23 seconds later, but goals from Kunwar and senior Giorgio Cico swung the lead in the Blue Jays' favor with 4:49 to play. Joksimovic tied the game with a five-meter shot at 3:40 and then Djordjevic won it in the waning seconds.    
 
What it Means
• Hopkins falls to 24-45 all-time against Bucknell with the Bison picking up their fifth straight win in the series.
 
Inside the Box Score
• Kurtz led the Blue Jays with a career-best six goals while junior Finn Banks had one goal along with five assists. Cico chipped in five points (2g, 3a) and freshman Jacob Whitaker handed out a career-best four helpers.
• Senior Spencer Witte made nine saves and had four steals for the Blue Jays.
 
Up Next
• Hopkins makes its annual trip to California for the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament next weekend. JHU opens the tournament against host Pomona-Pitzer at 1:40 pm PT.
