• The Short Story: Visiting and 15^th-ranked George Washington used a 5-1 third quarter to pull away in a 13-7 win over the Johns Hopkins water polo team Thursday night.
 
How it Happened
• The teams traded goals early and were tied at two with 3:17 to play in the opening quarter. The Colonials then put together a five-goal run over a span of four and a half minutes to push out to a 7-2 lead. Freshman Chris Freese and sophomore Emerson Sullivan ended the run with back-to-back goals to make it a 7-4 game at the half.
• George Washington came out firing in the third quarter, outscoring Hopkins, 5-1, to take a 12-5 lead into the fourth. Senior Finn Banks and sophomore Jayden Kunwar sandwiched goals around a strike from the Colonials to pull within six with 5:28 to play. That's as close as the Blue Jays could get however as the game ended in a 13-7 final.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins falls to 53-32 all-time against George Washington as the Colonials win their seventh straight in the series.
 
Inside the Box Score
• Junior John Murphy (1g, 1a), Banks (1g, 1a) and Freese (2g) led the Blue Jays with two points apiece. Sophomore Jake Pearson had a game-high three steals.
• Banks is now tied for 11^th in school history with 182 career goals.
