The Short Story: On a rain-soaked Homewood Field, it took until the 104
th minute, but the third-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team topped McDaniel, 1-0, in Centennial Conference action Wednesday night.
Â
How it Happened
• The Green Terror nearly struck first in the 19
th minute off the foot of Jacob Wells. Corey Long took a shot from in close on the left side that junior
Xander LeFevre stopped. The ball rebounded to the center of the box and Wells, who seemingly had an open goal. Sophomore
Tim Treinen cleared his shot away however to keep the game scoreless.
• In the 47
th minute, junior
Alejandro Maclean made a great run and picked the lower left corner, but his shot missed by just inches. About four minutes later, junior
Jonathon Brown fired a hard shot from just to the right of the cage, but a diving Aaron Bilbie knocked the ball away. Junior
RJ Moore had another great look in the 58
th minute on a header at the right post, but a one-handed save by Bilbie again kept the Blue Jays off the board.
• Hopkins finally beat Bilbie and ended the game with 6:51 to play in the second overtime. Sophomore
Brian Lenzer played a long ball over the defense to junior
Aaron Dang. He passed the ball back to junior
Pablo Martinez, who cut back on his defender and snuck a low, left-footed shot through six defenders and inside the left post.
