• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team faced a tough field at the Penn Elite Invitational on Saturday and earned a 17-10 win over North Carolina.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the day against Cornell, with the Big Red sweeping all three weapons. Senior Erin Chen led the Blue Jays by winning all three of her bouts in the Sabre.
• The Blue Jays then dropped a tough decision to the host Penn Quakers, but earned a 5-4 win in the Epee. Junior Shaina Morris and freshman Rachel Zhang led Hopkins with two wins each, while Morris clinched the win.
• Hopkins followed with a win over North Carolina, picking up wins in the Foil and Sabre. Sophomore Erika Wong, freshman Delphine Tan and junior Brooke Stanicki each won two bouts to lead the Foil squad to a 6-3 win. In the Sabre, Chen led the way with three wins, whie junior Rebecca Zhou and senior Alicja Tomaszewski each won two.
• JHU then lost to Yale while earning a 6-3 win in the Sabre. Chen, Tomaszewski and sophomore Cecilia Taylor each won two bouts for the Blue Jays. Freshman Alexandra MacDonald had two wins to lead the Foil squad.
• Hopkins closed out the day with a hard-fought 15-12 loss to Air Force. The Blue Jays grabbed a 5-4 win in the Foil, led by Stanicki and her three wins, including the clinching win. The Sabre squad lost a close 5-4 decision with Chen winning two of her three bouts.  
 
What it Means
• Morris moved into fourth place in school history as she now has 176 career Epee wins. Senior Shivani Bisen earned her 150th career win.
• Tomaszewski moved into sixth place in school history with 174 career Sabre wins. Zhou's three wins give her 147 for her career and she is now tied for eighth.
