The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team dropped its five matches against a tough field at the 2019 Temple Invitational.
How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the day with a loss to fourth-ranked Penn. Freshman
Cecilia Taylor picked up the Sabre squad's only win, while classmate
Miya Herman won two of her bouts to lead the Foil squad (3-6).
• The Blue Jays then lost to the host and seventh-ranked Temple Owls. Taylor again led the Sabre squad (3-6), by winning two of her three bouts. Herman did the same for the Foil squad (3-6) while sophomore
Shaina Morris grabbed the Blue Jays' only win in the Epee.
• Hopkins followed with a 20-7 loss to fourth-ranked Penn State. Junior
Erin Chen led the Sabre squad (3-6) with a pair of wins, while Herman won all three of her bouts for the Foil squad (4-5).
• JHU dropped a close one to 10
th-ranked Princeton but grabbed a win in the Foil. Chen won two bouts again to lead the Sabre squad (4-5) while Herman and junior
Katherine Xiang combined for six wins to lead the Foil squad to an 8-1 win.
• Hopkins wrapped up the day with a loss to St. John's, which is receiving votes in the coaches' poll. Taylor, sophomore

Cherlin Zhu each won a bout for the Sabre squad (3-6). Xiang, senior
