Blue Jays Crush Nine Home Runs in DH Sweep of Muhlenberg

Hopkins Outscored the Mules 30-1 in the Two Games

GAME ONE
•  Score: #18 Hopkins – 11, Muhlenberg - 0
• Records: #18 Johns Hopkins (15-5, 1-0 CC) • Muhlenberg (10-8, 0-1 CC)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Babb Field at Stromberg Stadium
• Pitching Decision: W – Preston Betz (3-2), L – RJ Hennessey (1-4)
• The Short Story:  Preston Betz tossed eight scoreless innings and the Johns Hopkins baseball team hit four home runs in an 11-0 victory over Muhlenberg in game one on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Tim Kutcher led off the bottom of the first for the Blue Jays with a solo shot to left as Hopkins took a quick 1-0 lead. Johns Hopkins added three more runs in the third as Chris Festa doubled home two runs and Adam Kohl made it 4-0 with an RBI single to right.
• In the fourth, Chris DeGiacomo made it a 6-0 JHU lead with a double to right that scored Mike Eberle and Matthew Ritchie. A Festa homer to lead off the fifth gave the Blue Jays a seven-run advantage.
• JHU added four more runs in the sixth as Kutcher once again led off the inning with a solo shot to left. Nate Davis later homered to left-center to plate Eberle and DeGiacomo and give the Blue Jays an 11-0 lead.
• The 11 runs were more than enough for Betz who held the Mules scoreless in his eight innings of work and Brian Linton came into the game in the ninth and sealed the shutout victory for the Blue Jays.   

Inside the Box Score
• Betz improves to 3-2 on the season as he scattered seven hits and did not allow a walk.
• Kutcher went 3-4 and now has three home runs and eight RBIs on the season.
• Eberle and Festa each recorded two hits in game one while Festa and Davis knocked in three runs apiece in the game.


GAME TWO
• Score: JHU – 19, Muhlenberg - 1
• Records: #18 Johns Hopkins (16-5, 2-0 CC) • Muhlenberg (10-9, 0-2 CC)
• Pitching Decision: W – Sean McCracken (3-2), L – Matt D'Ambrosia (3-2)
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins baseball team hit five more baseballs out of Babb Field as JHU completed the doubleheader sweep of Muhlenberg with a resounding 19-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Just like in the first game, Hopkins took a quick lead in the bottom of the first as Kutcher scored on a Muhlenberg error and Festa hit his second home run of the day to plate three more runs and give JHU a 4-0 lead.
• The Mules cut the Blue Jay lead to three as Michael Martinez took the 0-1 pitch from McCracken over the left field wall in the third inning.
• Johns Hopkins responded in the bottom of the third as Festa singled home Eberle to make the score 5-1 and Ritchie later worked a walk with the bases loaded to make it a 6-1 game. AJ King followed with a two-run single to give the Blue Jays an 8-1 advantage.
• Home runs from DeGiacomo in the fourth and a pinch-hit home run for Mark Lopez in the fifth made it a 10-1 game. Lopez's home run was the first of his collegiate career.
• JHU added two more runs in the sixth as DeGiacomo hit his second home run of the day, this one a two-run shot to center to make the score 12-1.
• The Blue Jays exploded for seven runs in the seventh to make the score 19-1. Bradley Parsons and Robby Faris knocked in the first two runs of the inning on a double and single while Pete Manny doubled home two more Blue Jay runners. The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Jack Pausic who launched a three-run shot over left field wall for his first collegiate home run and the Blue Jays went onto take game two by a 19-1 score.  

Inside the Box Score
• The 19 runs are the most scored by the Blue Jays this season and the five home runs are also a season-high.
• McCracken went six innings to move to 3-2 on the season. The senior allowed just the one run on three hits while surrendering just one walk while striking out two. Jaspar Carmichael, Josh Hejka and Seamus Ryan-Johnson went the final three innings allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out five.
• DeGiacomo finished the game 3-4 and now has five home runs on the season which is tied for the most in the conference, while his 14 RBI are third-most on the team.
• Festa knocked in four runs in the game as the junior now has 18 RBI this season to lead the team.

What it Means
• The Blue Jays are now 43-18 all-time against the Mules as Hopkins has won the last six meetings. JHU has outscored Muhlenberg 62-16 in those six victories.
• Hopkins has won its last 28 regular season conference home games with the last loss coming on April 2, 2016, as JHU was defeated by Haverford, 13-0.
• Eberle has reached base safely in every game for the Blue Jays this season.
• Johns Hopkins has scored at least 10 runs in four-straight games as JHU has outscored its opponents, 58-5.

• The Blue Jays continue Centennial Conference play on Tuesday, April 5 as Hopkins will travel to Gettysburg to take on the Bullets. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
