The Short Story: The 19
th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team got a career-best 15 saves from senior
Haley Crosson in a 12-7 win over host Ohio State Saturday afternoon.
Â
How it Happened
• Senior
Miranda Ibello put the Blue Jays on the board just over five minutes in, using her defender as a screen and beating Jill Rizzo from in-tight. Nearly 10 minutes later, sophomore
Aurora Cordingley converted a free position shot and Hopkins led 2-0. Just 43 seconds after that, Liza Hernandez scored off the alley dodge to cut the Blue Jays' lead in half.
• The Blue Jays answered with three straight to go up 5-1 with 2:13 to play in the half. Ibello started the run when she took a pass from Cordingley, ducked inside her defender and scored on the sidearm shot. Cordingley sparked the Hopkins' transition when grabbed a loose ball at the restraining line and went the other way. She carried deep into the Buckeyes' end, passed to junior
Maggie Schneidereith, who passed to Ibello open on the doorstep. Ibello was then on the other end of things when she found a cutting
Keegan Barger for the one-timer.
• Sophie Baez got one back for Ohio State when Hernandez slipped her a pass in the right alley and she scored from close range to make it a 5-2 game at the half. Hopkins wasted little time opening the second half scoring when redshirt senior
Ellie McNulty scored off the dodge just 43 seconds to put JHU up 6-2. That started a run where the teams traded goals over a 14-minute span and Hopkins led 8-5 with 14:59 to play.
• McNulty kick-started another three-goal Blue Jay run when she took a pass from Schneidereith at the top of the fan, and then picked the lower left corner to push the lead to four. Just 37 seconds later, Schneidereith faked the hand-off and scored from the left alley to make it a 10-5 game. Ibello picked up her third assist of the afternoon when she passed up a free position shot, instead finding Schneidereith on the doorstep for the score. Sara Dickinson and Lindsay Epstein then sandwiched a pair of goals around an unassisted Cordingley tally, and Hopkins took the 12-7 win.
