The Short Story: The 19
th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team prevailed over host Towson, 10-3, in a defensive battle Tuesday night. Â
Â
How it Happened
• Senior
Nicole DeMase and Natalie Sulmonte traded free position goals in the game's opening two minutes as the teams were tied at one.
• Sophomore
Aurora Cordingley then scored off a split dodge at the 22:04-mark to spark a four-goal Blue Jay run, that spanned more than 16 minutes. Hopkins pushed the lead to 3-1 when sophomore
Jeanne Kachris intercepted a Towson pass and went the other way. Cordingley then found junior
Maggie Schneidereith on the doorstep for the score at 19:22.
• Junior
Lexi Souder cut across the fan, took a pass from redshirt senior
Ellie McNulty and scored on a low shot to put Hopkins up 4-1. DeMase capped the run when she scored from in-tight off a
Shelby Harrison pass with 4:42 to play in the half.
• Shelby Stack converted a free position shot with 1:59 left to end a scoreless drought of more than 26 minutes for the Tigers. The Blue Jays would answer with goals from senior
Miranda Ibello and Souder in the final 47 seconds to stake Hopkins to a 7-2 halftime lead.
• It took until the 18:33 mark of the second half before either offense converted. Schneidereith split a pair of defenders and then beat Kiley Keating with a high-to-low shot. Four minutes later, sophomore
Keegan Barger knocked down a Tiger defenders' pass in the middle of the arc and Cordingley scooped up the ground ball and scored to make it a 9-2 game.
• After another long drought, Hannah Hobbes scored a free position goal for Towson with 1:50 on the clock. Barger answered just 41 seconds later, weaving through the defense and rifling a shot under the cross bar. Â
Â
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 15-11 all-time against Towson and snaps a three-game losing streak in the series.
• Barger finished the game with a school-record seven caused turnovers. As a team, the Blue Jays had 19 caused turnovers, a season high and the most since they had 19 on April 25, 2003.
• The three goals allowed are the fewest by a Hopkins opponent since a 19-0 shutout of Furman on March 3, 2018. The zero assists by the Tigers are also the fewest since that Furman game last March.  Â
• Ibello is now tied for 10
th in school Division I history with 153 career points, while Schneidereith ranks 11
th with 152 points.
