Johns Hopkins Cruises to Wins over Rowan, Swarthmore and WPI

• The Short Story: The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's swimming team won 13 events and posted seven NCAA B times en route to wins over Swarthmore, WPI and 22nd-ranked Rowan Saturday afternoon.

• "As we head down the home stretch, it was great to pick up three big team wins. The team also stepped up with several stellar individual swims that show us the training over the past several weeks is really paying off."
 
Top Finishers
• The Blue Jays kicked off the day with first and second-place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay. Freshman Cecilia Cortez, senior Sonia Lin and sophomores Rebecca Ssengonzi and Kristen Alicea-Jorgensen won the relay with a time of 1:45.87. Junior Mikayla Bisignani and seniors Claire State, Kiki Petersen and Michelle Wang followed in 1:49.38.
• Junior Emma McElrath grabbed second in the 1650 Free as she finished in 17:58.17. Junior Carmela Irato followed with the first of her two wins, leading a sweep of the top three spots in the 200 Free. She clocked in at 1:53.94 for the win. Junior Hanan Bandak placed second with a time of 1:54.93, followed by freshman Chase Lahr in third (1:56.70).
• Hopkins then swept first through fourth place in the 100 Back, with a pair of NCAA B times. Sophomore Sydney Okubo led the way her winning time of 56.18. Freshman Renee Liu placed second (56.53), followed by Cortez (58.67) and Petersen (59.59).
• Lin took the top spot in the 100 Breast as she finished in 1:06.35, while freshman Cali Wilson placed third in 1:07.84.
• The 200 Fly saw Hopkins take the top two spots with two NCAA B times. Freshman Emerson Davis touched first, finishing in 2:04.76. Ssengonzi took second with a time of 2:05.43.
• Hopkins followed with first and third-place finishes in the 50 and 100 Free. Wang beat WPI's Katherine Pawlak by one-hundredth of a second to win the 50 Free (24.65), with sophomore Sophia Girgenti taking third (25.09). Alicea-Jorgensen clocked in a 53.31 to win the 100 Free and Girgenti again took third as she touched in 53.83.
• The Blue Jays turned in another impressive one through fourth sweep in the 200 Back. Liu paced the field with an NCAA B time of 2:02.08. Lahr took second (2:04.92), followed by Wang (2:05.79) and Cortez (2:07.48).
• Freshman Kate Overbey then won the 200 Breast as she touched the wall in 2:24.04, beating the field by nearly seven seconds.
• Irato grabbed her second win of the day as she beat the field in the 500 Free with a time of 5:10.32. Bandak then placed third with a time of 5:16.69.
• JHU then went one-two in the 100 Fly, led by Ssengonzi and her NCAA B time of 56.26. Davis followed in second place and a time of 57.47.
• The Jays did one better in the final individual event, going one-two-three in the 200 IM. Okubo earned the win as she touched the wall in an NCAA B time of 2:05.37. Wilson followed in second in 2:10.44 and Overbey claimed third in 2:11.27.
• Hopkins wrapped up the day with win in the 200 Free Relay. Alicea-Jorgensen, Bisignani, senior Alison Shapiro and Petersen combined for a winning time of 1:37.00.

• Hopkins returns to the pool on Saturday, February 1 as the Blue Jays travel to Pittsburgh to take on 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon.
