Johns Hopkins Wins Three at NJIT; Gupta Earns 100th Win

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team won three of its five bouts at the NJIT MACFA Round Robin Sunday afternoon.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the day with an easy win over Army. Sophomores Noah Park, Matthew Jacobs and Evan Lau led the Foil squad with a combined nine wins. In the Sabre, sophomore Paul Lam and freshmen David DeScherer and Sachin Mehta did the same. Freshman Jeffrey Wang led the Epee squad (8-1) with three wins.
• JHU followed with a 23-4 win over Yeshiva. Jacobs, Lau and junior Eashan Gupta won three bouts each for the Foil squad. Lam, DeScherer and Mehta repeated their feat in the Sabre. And in the Epee, Wang and freshman Danny Comer each won two bouts in a tight 5-4 win.
• The Blue Jays picked up their third win, a 24-3 decision over the Hunter Hawks. Park and Gupta won three bouts each as the Foil squad won 9-0. Lam, junior Vance Wood and sophomore Eryk Kokosinski combined to lead the Sabre squad to a 9-0 win. Wang, Comer and freshman Jack Werrell each won two bouts as the Epee squad won 6-3.
• NJIT stopped Hopkins' win streak with an 18-9 win. The Sabre squad lost a close 5-4 decision with Kokosinski winning two of his three bouts. The Epee squad also lost by a 5-4 score with Werrell and senior Tiger Gao winning two each.
• Stevens topped Hopkins, 17-19, to close out the day. The Blue Jay Sabre squad earned a 7-2 win with Mehta, DeScherer and Kokosinski winning two bouts each.
 
What it Means
• Gao now has 242 career wins and is tied for third in school history in the Epee. Among all weapons, Gao is now tied for 18th in career wins.
• With his second win of the day, Gupta picked up his 100th career win.
