How it Happened
  Senior shortstop
Dillon Bowman made his first career start on the mound, earning the win while tossing five scoreless innings against Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday. Bowman allowed just four hits, striking out six in his pitching debut. The senior found himself in trouble, loading the bases in the second inning, but struck out two hitters with the bags full to keep the Griffins off the scoreboard.Â
Although Gwynedd Mercy ultimately couldn't crack Bowman, the Blue Jays didn't waste much time getting to Griffin starting pitcher Brian Janetka. Matt Ritchie opened the bottom of the first with a leadoff single, advancing to third on a ground-rule double off the bat of
Chris Festa.
Austin Sacks drew a walk to load the bases before
James Ingram followed suit, earning a base on balls to drive in the first run of the game for the Blue Jays.Â
After Bowman worked through the tough top of the second, JHU was back for more. Back-to-back walks from
Jack Pausic and Ritchie brought Eberle up to the plate with a runner in scoring position. The senior third baseman picked up a base knock through the right side, scoring Pausic. Festa stayed hot at the plate, ripping the ball off the wall in right, scoring Ritchie and Eberle to take a 4-0 lead.Â
Ingram worked a one-out walk, his second of the game, in the bottom of the third. Ingram stole second and advanced to third on a balk before crossing home plate after an RBI single by Pausic, forcing Janetka from the ball game.Â
 Â
AJ King rapped a one-out single in the bottom of the sixth, advancing to second on a wild pitch.
Adam Kohl smacked a ground-rule double to left center, bringin home King for a 6-0 lead.Â
With Bowman out of the game in the top of the sixth, Gwynedd Mercy finally struck. Freshman
Todd Hartman hit the first batter he faced and then allowed back-to-back singles allowing the first Griffin run to cross. Hartman walked the fourth batter he faced, bringing
Bob Babb to the mound before the young lefty retired a batter.
Ben Keever entered the game and struck out the first batter he faced, but walked and hit the next two batters, allowing two more runs to cross.Â
Now leading 6-3, the Blue Jays added some more insurance in the bottom half of the inning. Festa drove in Eberle to make it a 7-3 ball game. Sacks was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for Ingram. The sophomore left fielder crushed a ball into the night sky and over the left field wall for a three-run homer, extending the lead to 10-3. Gwynedd Mercy added a run in the seventh and the eighth, but the Blue Jays held steady in the ninth for a 10-5 victory.Â
