How it Happened
Tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter, Gettysburg used an 11-0 run to jump out ahead of Johns Hopkins in a 63-49 victory in Friday night's Centennial Conference semifinal matchup.Â
Eight different Bullets scored at least four points, led by 14 from Ashley Gehrin in the victory. Despite shooting just 38 percent from the floor, the Bullets knocked down 64 percent of their threes in the contest.   Â
  Sophomore duo
Diarra Oden and
Erin Walsh combined for 29 of the Blue Jays' 49 points on Friday night.
After trading buckets late in the first quarter,
Halie Egan drilled a 17-footer with less than three seconds left to tie the game up at 10 entering the second. Tori Yantsos hit a triple to start the second, sparking the 11-0 run by the Bullets. Ashley Gehrin hit seven free throws, scoring half of her points during the run. JHU answered back immediately with an 8-0 run of their own. Walsh scored five straight, followed by a three-pointer from Oden to get it back to 21-18.       Â
The Bullets ripped off another big run spanning the second and third quarters, this time a 12-0 run, as Gehrin scored five more points to extend the lead to 33-18. Christina Richson hit a triple in the third quarter to extend Gettysburg's lead to 17, its biggest of the contest.Â
Trailing by 13 in the fourth, JHU began to chip away again as Oden knocked down another triple, cutting the lead to 54-44. The Blue Jays got another bucket moments later to get the deficit back into single digits. Yantsos extended the lead back to 11 for Gettysburg before
Maggie Wodicka responded with a triple to cut it back to eight, but the Bullets scored the final six points of the contest.Â
