Oden & Howie Earn All-Centennial Honors

Diarra Oden Named To The All-Centennial First Team

Lancaster, PA – Diarra Oden and Emily Howie were honored by the Centennial Conference it was announced this afternoon. Oden, a sophomore guard from Atlanta, Ga., was named to the All-Centennial First Team while Howie, a freshman guard from Walnut Creek, CA, was given honorable mention honors.
           
Oden, the lone returning starter from the 2018-19 team, took on a big leadership role in 2019-20. The captain led the team, averaging 18 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game and 2.4 steals per game. Oden improved across the board in almost every statistical category, improving her shooting percentages to 40 percent from the field, 34 percent from beyond the three-point line and 79 percent from the charity stripe. Oden's 18 points per game are the fifth-most in a JHU women's basketball season while her 449 points are the 10th-most in a single season.
 
Oden scored at least 20 points in 10 games during the season, including a career-high 29 points in a late-season win over Swarthmore. The sophomore registered her first career double-double in a home win over Ursinus, scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
 
Howie joined the JHU team and immediately became an integral part of the starting lineup. Howie started 25 of 26 games in her freshman season, averaging 10.3 points per game, seven rebounds per game and 2.9 assists per game. Howie tied the program-record, knocking down 59 three-pointers for JHU. The freshman point guard grabbed 159 defensive rebounds, the 12th-most in a season by a JHU player.
 
Howie registered three double-doubles on the season, earning her first career double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds in a home win against Dickinson. Howie became the first freshman since Alex Vassila to register a double-double for JHU. The California native scored a career best 26 points in a 68-58 win over Washington College, tying the program-record by knocking down eight threes. Howie made at least one three in 23 of her 26 games during her rookie campaign.
 
Senior Jess Sweeney was honored by the conference as well, earning a spot on the sportsmanship team.
 
The Blue Jays finished the 2019-20 campaign with a 17-9 record, achieving a record of 14-6 in conference play.
