Cordingley, Heldberg Power Hopkins to 13-10 Win at Saint Joseph's

The Basics
• Score: Johns Hopkins-13, Saint Joseph's-10
• Records: JHU (4-3) • SJU (4-3)
• Location: Philadelphia, PA • Sweeney Field
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team got five points apiece from senior Mackenzie Heldberg and junior Aurora Cordingley as the Blue Jays beat the host Saint Joseph's Hawks, 13-10, Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
Saint Joseph's jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the game's opening 10 minutes behind a pair of Sam McGee goals. Heldberg took a pass in the slot from senior Maggie Schneidereith and scored on the quick-stick shot at the 18:06-mark to spark a four-goal Blue Jay run. Just 102 seconds later, Cordingley scooped in a loose rebound, hockey-style, to knot the score at four. Junior Shelby Harrison then scored back-to-back goals, just 39 seconds apart, to make it 6-4 Hopkins.
McGee added her third of the half with 6:17 to go on a feed from Stephanie Kelly to cut JHU's lead in half. That goal ended a scoring drought of more than 14 minutes for the Hawks. But Schneidereith responded less than a minute later, curling from behind and ripping a shot past Mikala Davis off the Heldberg helper to send the Blue Jays into the half with a 7-5 lead.
Kaela Smith opened the second-half scoring just 32 seconds in and the teams would trade scores over the ensuing seven minutes as Hopkins led 9-8 with 22:33 to play. Heldberg pushed the Blue Jays' lead to three at the 12:31-mark with back-to-back goals. Bridget Cerciello scored on the run from the right alley to pull the Hawks back within two and end another long scoring drought (12:54).
Heldberg responded less than a minute later, connecting with Schneidereith for the fourth time in the game, and putting JHU up 12-9. Laura Lasprogata cut the lead back to two with a free position goal at 7:51, but sophomore Claire Mills answered with her own at the 2:21-mark. Cordingley then won the draw and the Blue Jays ran out the full 90-second possession clock. On the ensuing Hawk clear, Schneidereith checked the ball away from Davis and Hopkins ran out the remainder of the clock.

She is the first to do so since Dene DiMartino in 2016 and it took her just 62 games to reach the mark. Schneidereith now ranks fifth in JHU Division I history, and ninth overall, with 203 points.
