The Short Story: The top-ranked Johns Hopkins volleyball team defeated Franklin & Marshall in straight sets on Wednesday night.
How it Happened
1st Set
• Trailing 4-3 after an attack error, Hopkins reeled off four straight points to take an early three-point lead.
Sarah Khan made it difficult on the Diplomats with a pair of aces. A couple of service errors and a
Lauren Anthony kill put the Blue Jays ahead 10-6.
• Leading 11-9, Hopkins extended the first set lead to seven, getting kills from
Sydney Portale and
Eleni Panagopoulos and an ace from
Natalie Aston.
• After cutting it to 17-13 with a Kyra Caffrey kill, Hopkins took a 19-13 lead and never let F&M back within less than five points. Aston and Anthony earned kills to make it 24-17 before Anthony ended the set with an ace.
2nd Set
• Hopkins jumped out ahead 6-3 in the second set, getting kills from
Elayna Williams, Anthony, Norman and Williams again. A servive ace from Aston gave the Jays the 6-3 lead.
• F&M hung around early, cutting it to 8-7 and 11-10 before the Hopkins spurt. Williams had a pair of kills, Anthony served up an ace and Panagopouls and Aston added kills on a 5-0 scoring run for JHU to make it 16-10.
• The Diplomats won three straight points to make it 20-15, getting kills from Caffret and Nicole Carey, but Hopkins took the final five points for a 25-15 set win. Khan added another ace and Norman picked up a kill on the final point of the set.
3rd Set
• The run came early for Hopkins to put away the Diplomats in the third. Leading 4-3,
Matt Troy's squad cooked up a 7-0 run to break it open early. Khan tossed in two more aces, Norman and Anthony tacked on kills and Portale picked up a pair of kills to give JHU an 11-3 lead.
• After a 3-0 run to cut it to 14-8 for F&M, Hopkins took five more, getting a trio of errors from the Diplomats plus a kill from Williams and an ace from Anthony.
• Entering into the game with a 20-10 lead,
Chidinma Onukwugha picked up a pair of kills in the final points of the match and Panagopoulos did as well to lead JHU to a 25-13 third set romp.
What it Means
• Johns Hopkins improves to 23-0 on the year and 8-0 in the Centennial Conference.
• The Blue Jays pushed their overall winning streak to 58 with today's sweep. The streak is the third longest in NCAA Division III history and the fifth longest in the history of NCAA women's volleyball (all divisions).
• The win inside Goldfarb Gymnasium is the 46th straight home win for the Blue Jays, seventh-most in Division III history.

• Khan was great on both sides for Hopkins, leading the way with 13 digs and five aces for the Jays. Hopkins totaled 13 aces for the match, getting three each from Aston and Anthony.
• Hopkins hit .310 for the match, including a ridiculous .458 clip in the 1st set.
