Â
How it Happened
•Â
1stÂ
Half
The Blue Jays didn't need much time, just over seven minutes to be exact, to grab a 1-0 lead. Freshman
Katie Sullivan corralled a pass near midfield, raced into the Red Devil zone along the left wing and ripped a 22-yard shot over the head of Dickinson goalie
Sophia Kavulich and just under the crossbar to give the Blue Jays the one-goal lead.
Â
The Blue Jays had a majority of the play in the opening 45 minutes as they held a 6-3 advantage in shots and took all five of their corners for the game in the opening half, but were unable to solve Kavulich again before intermission.
•Â
2ndÂ
Half
Johns Hopkins needed even less time in the second half than they did in the first to find the net and score what proved to be the insurance goal in the two-goal victory. Senior
Rachel Jackson posted up her defender just inside the top of the box and took a perfect feed from
Sammy Murrell. Jackson controlled the pass with her back to the goal and turned and fired just inside the near post just 3:56 into the second half to make it 2-0.
Â
The Blue Jays had a golden chance to put the game away in the 79
th minute when
Emma Billings one-timed a perfect cross at point-blank range, but Kavulich made a great save on a shot that appeared ticketed for the corner to keep it a two-goal game.
Dickinson had its best chance of the game less than 90 seconds later when
Allie Charnas took a perfect cross-field feed that slipped through the defense and ripped a shot from 12 yards, but she fired it right at Hendricks who was up to the task to keep the Red Devils off the board. Dickinson never seriously threatened in the final 10 minutes.
