Blue Jays Welcome River Hawks to Homewood for Top-20 Matchup

The Game
«  Johns Hopkins (6-1, 5-1 CC) welcomes Susquehanna (7-0, 6-0 CC) to Homewood Field in a matchup of two of the three teams that can still claim the Centennial Conference's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Playoffs.

A Look Back
«  Johns Hopkins improved to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the Centennial with a 50-0 win at Gettysburg last Saturday.
« Susquehanna kept its perfect season alive as the River Hawks eased past McDaniel, 45-16.

The Facts
«  This is the 136th season of Johns Hopkins football.  JHU first fielded a team in 1882.
«  Johns Hopkins enters this week's game with an all-time record of 569-488-58 (.536).
«  Since the start of the 2010 season, the Blue Jays are 106-18 (.855) overall and 87-9 (.907) in the Centennial Conference.
«  Overall, JHU owns 14 Centennial Conference titles (all won since 2002) and has qualified for the NCAA Playoffs 10 times (all since 2005).

Poll Position
« Johns Hopkins will carry a pair of top-20 rankings into this week's game against Susquehanna as the Blue Jays check in at #20 in both the AFCA and D3football.com polls this week.
« Since the AFCA Poll debuted in 1999, this week's #20 ranking marks the 105th time JHU has been ranked in the top 25.  More recently, the Blue Jays are in the top 25 for the 88th time in the last 96 polls dating back to 2011.
«  Since the D3football.com Poll debuted in 2003, this week's #20 ranking marks the 119th time Johns Hopkins has appeared in the top 25.

On This Date
«  Since 1950, Johns Hopkins has played nine games on October 30 and the Blue Jays are 4-5 all-time on this date.
« JHU has won its last two games on this date with victories against Ursinus in 2004 (20-14) and Juniata in 2010 (48-0).

After the Bye
«  Dating back to 2011, when the Centennial Conference went to a league-wide bye in the middle of the season, Johns Hopkins is 41-4 in regular season games played after the bye week.

« Johns Hopkins has scored 355 points in its first seven games of the 2021 season.  That's the most points JHU has scored in any seven-game span in school history.
« The previous JHU record for most points scored in a seven-game span was 352, which the Blue Jays scored in the first seven games of the 2018 season.
« In 28 quarters this season, the Blue Jays have scored 10 or more points in 17 of the 28 and 20 or more in seven of 28.
« JHU has scored 124 points in the second quarter and has outscored the opposition 68-7 in the first quarter and 85-7 in the third quarter.

JHU Ranks Fifth in the Nation in Scoring
« Among Division III teams, Johns Hopkins enters this week's game against Susquehanna ranked fifth in the nation in scoring offense at 50.7 points per game.  JHU is one of just five NCAA Division III teams currently averaging more than 50 points per game.
« In addition to ranking fifth among Division III teams in scoring offense, Johns Hopkins is also one of just seven teams in all divisions of the NCAA to currently be averaging better than 50 points per game.  The Blue Jays' 50.7 points per outing are tied for sixth among the 656 football-playing schools in the NCAA.

Defense Among the Centennial/National Leaders
« The Blue Jay defense enters this week's game ranked among the best in the Centennial Conference and the NCAA in a number of statistical categories.
« Through seven games, JHU ranks first in the Centennial in scoring defense (10.9) and rushing defense (56.4) and second in total defense (244.0), pass defense (187.6) and sacks (20).
« Nationally, the Blue Jays rank ninth in rushing defense, 12th in scoring defense, 20th in total defense and10th in opponent third-down percentage (.252).

Lethal Weapon Three
«  Johns Hopkins features one of the top wide receiver trios in the nation in Harrison Wellmann, Quinn Revere and Ryan Hubley - all three rank among the top four in the Centennial Conference in receptions and receiving yards.
« Wellmann headlines the group as he has 58 receptions for 868 yards and 11 touchdowns, while Revere (45-705-6) and Hubley (45-602-3) are not far behind.
« On the year, they have 2,175 combined receiving yards on 148 receptions with 20 touchdowns.  They have more combined receptions and yards than all but one other team in the Centennial Conference.
« Breaking it down by game, they have combined for 20 or more receptions in all but one game, have rolled up more than 300 receiving yards five times and accounted for four or more touchdowns in four different games.

On a Roll
«  Johns Hopkins is 94-7 in its last 101 regular season games dating back to late in the 2010 season.
«  The Blue Jays are 103-15 in their last 118 games overall since late in the 2010 season.

At Home at Homewood
«  Since the start of the 2010 season, the Blue Jays are 55-7 (.887) at Homewood Field.
«  Johns Hopkins had won 12 consecutive games at Homewood Field before the loss on September 14, 2019 against Susquehanna.  This is tied for the longest home winning streak in school history.  JHU previously won 12 straight games at home from 2014-15.
